RE: Hurricane Kyle is now a hurricane

http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/nb-23_metric_e.html#detailsf
The above gives your area for land weather, not much detail as usual..
You have to dig into the marine areas to get the details from our weather service around the coast....

Above is from about 2 hours ago....

RE: Hurricane Kyle is now a hurricane

If you want to follow this action you can watch the trend and results of this storm on this site.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Northeast.shtml
You will be able to see the wind speed, direction, barometric pressure changes and wind direction changes as it moves Northward thru the Gulf of Maine and into the Fundy region.
Also wave height etc. you will see the winds go around the compass as the storm moves thru the buoy areas....
If you like some real storms come here in the winter when we serve up one of our big Nor'Easters.....
This will come and go like a flash in the frying pan...
Well, we will pull in the gear and hove to for the night maybe!!!!!!!!!

RE: Anyone using 5w-40 for winter camping?

You will like the 5W40 engine oil.
Your engine will also like it, the oil will get to the top of the engine more quickly when you first start.
The electrical system will also appreciate the oil, the cranking system will not groan as much and the load on the batteries will be less than if it has to beat up the molasses 15w40 to get up to firing speed.
It might even save a service call for a jump start if your batteries get run down, when you pre heat the batteries are taking a double whammy when they are cold.
I run it all year long and no bad effects after about 4 years in my Cummins trucks and tractors.
The 40 for the high number is the same as the 15W40 and the 5 can only help you in cold weather.

RE: no fuel for TC's in Knoxville, TN area... Ike caused?

Our diesel did not budge thru out the whole rip off affair with gas.
Stayed at $1.31 per liter, guess diesel is not made in a refinery...

RE: Filon vs. Gelcoat

How about giving the camper its final skin with something like Rhino truck bed spray. We all know how tough that is, if you think you might have a nick or leak developing whip out your spray can and re coat the area.No seams, easy maintenance, no dents, no cracks, no delaminating...
Lots of color choices...

RE: High Gas + Tough Economy = Super RV Deals?

I have seen no reductions beyond the usual 15 percent or so off the sticker prices.
Some units I have been watching have been priced the same all summer.
I dont think they expect to sell many units, this quote from the Snowriver president pretty well sums it up:
Those dealers that did sell Snowriver campers during this period were being cautious and not wanting to replace these units until spring
Even the dealers have no faith in their own industry and will not buy.
One would think prices must come down in a free market to try and sell something no one will buy.
It shows the stubborn attitude of a sales only based business that had it their own way for a long time.

Acrylic thermo-pane EURO windows

Picture of Windows
Are the above windows any better than most cold weather windows in truck campers.
I see Northstar has been using them for some time, maybe Northern Lite and now they are in the Lance 830.
There is a picture of the type in the Lance 830 in the above link.
Anyone like or dislike their "Euro" windows???

RE: HELP! with payload confusion

You should take the truck you are interested in to a scale (during the test drive).
Weigh it with you and your wife and a full tank of fuel.(or figure the fuel weight if you dont want to buy the dealer a tank of fuel)
Subtract this weigh scale weight from the GVWR on the truck door panel.
In your case you say you want the result to be at least 4500 pounds approx.
If it is less ( and it will probably be less than 4500 pounds) you will be over weight with your wet BF 10.6 plus gear.
You are in about the only province/state that has any real policy regarding overweight RVs. The BC policy will not favour you if you are overweight and they decide to enforce the written policy.
Dont pay any attention to the sales people.
If you are looking at Single axle F350s be sure to read the door panel GVWR, they can range from about 9900 to 11,500 pounds GVWR.
This will explain their policy

This is a bit different...

http://www.trucktransformer.com/camper.asp
I thought this might interest someone who had another use for his truck, looks like it is very easy to load and unload, and appears to be very well built with a steel frame etc...
The back slide dinette looks nice
I have nothing to do with the seller...
I was wondering who builds the camper for them, does anyone recognize the interior build style (woodwork etc) it is from the B.C. interior area.

RE: What happens when you ignore your Exterior Cauking Duties...

Most RVs I have ever looked at seem to be poorly built, over priced and just waiting for all kinds of problems to develop.
I think it has a lot to do with the fact they are subject to a lot of jaring, bumping, twisting, hard driving water during travel in rain and snow, they just are not up to the task as far a built quality.
It just shows how important it is to have a company that will stand behind their product when you make your purchase and if it is used I dont know how you could ever really know what the internal shape of your TC was without tearing it apart.
These things are falling apart, leaking, delaminating and most only get used a few weeks per year.

RE: After market aerodynamic nose cone thoughts?

Everyone concerned about the cost of fuel and running a truck should read the info in this article, it is the best I have ever seen for this type of information.
You will save big bucks if you incorporate this info in operating your little truck camper units, we have seen very positive results with large
trucks by following this info:
Dig out what would pertain to your operation. It will pay.

This company used to make a similar unit. I dont know if they are still in business or not, the original company was sold.
I think the Dodge chassis were overloaded and they then switched to F450s and 550s...

RE: financial sign of the times.

Here diesel is over $7.00 per Imperial gallon and around $6.16 for a US gallon. The only outlook seems to be increasing prices.
Recreational boating is in the toilet for the large boats.
I see very few RVs on the road.
The only recreational activity that makes sense would seem to be a sailing vessel with an auxilary engine for emergency use.
The average person around here just cannot afford to run up and down the road anymore for fun.
Times have changed and I dont think they will ever return to the good times, or what we thought were the good times.

RE: Ford offers "A" plan pricing to everyone...

How do you determine the dealer Invoice price. Do you get to see the actual invoice from FORD???
What would be an example of the Dealer Invoice price compared to the window sticker, around here I can see them printing out false Invoices etc to try and negate any gains for the customer. You cannot believe anything our local dealer says.

RE: Is your TC safe from theft?

You probably cannot do anything to keep it from being taken from your site if they really want it bad enough.
However there are many systems available that will tell you it is being moved outside of a pre-determined area.
Basically the camper knows where it is via a GPS unit, the area is defined geographically, when the the camper is moved from that area you will be alerted via cell phone, internet etc....
There are many companies offering this service to companies that have to leave heavy equipment at remote job sites, truck trailers etc .
Here is one to look at:

RE: Trying to cut fuel costs, what are you doing?

I am amazed how fast things have changed. For years we ran up and down the road as if it would last forever. High speed, heavy non aerodynamic loads. Fuel flowed like water..
I think the party is over and it happened in a heartbeat.
There is no way to beat this one, drive slow, load lighter, use the cruise control, run on half worn out tires, use summer tread tires, use synthetic gear oil, dont idle, learn how to drive, no matter what we will be spending a lot more for fuel than in the good times.
A good time to buy an RV if you can afford to run it up and down the road. There are lots for sale around here, few buyers.
Maybe it is time to buy a sailboat????
